We had the absolute best experience today with Spyros as our tour guide for our Crete tour of Knossos Palace, the olive oil factory, and the pottery workshop. From the moment we started the tour, he was incredibly warm, entertaining, knowledgeable, and passionate about his island and its history.

What made this tour so special was how personal and authentic it felt. It was an intimate group of only four people, which allowed us to ask questions throughout the entire day and really engage with everything we were seeing. Spyros never made anything feel rushed and took the time to explain the history, culture, and traditions of Crete in such an interesting and memorable way.

One of the highlights of the day was when he brought us to the village where he grew up and showed us around personally. It felt like we got to experience the “real” Crete through his eyes. He even took us to a local café for coffee and introduced us to authentic Greek yogurt, which was such a thoughtful touch and something we probably never would have experienced on our own.

He also brought us to a beautiful mountaintop restaurant near the windmills for lunch with incredible views and delicious food recommendations. Every stop throughout the day felt carefully chosen and meaningful.

To top it all off, on the ride back from Knossos Palace, Spyros surprised us with wine and made the drive back so fun and enjoyable. It truly felt like spending the day with a friend who genuinely wanted us to fall in love with Crete.

If you are considering this tour, book it and ask for Spyros if possible — he made our experience unforgettable. Thank you for such an amazing day and for sharing your home, stories, and culture with us!

This tour allowed my to see Crete beyond the beaches. I saw the region’s scenic beauty from the shores to the mountians and it’s many architectural influences. Spyros was a friendly and knowledgeable guide. He proudly shared so much history and culture about the island. I highly recommend this tour as you will not be disappointed.

Our family did the full day tour with Spiros, visiting olive oil mills, the windmills in Lasithi Plateau and Knossos Palace. In addition we stopped for a traditional lunch (the best we had in Greece), and later for traditional coffee and to try greek yoghurt. This was one of the best tours we have ever done. Spiros was an amazing guide, very passionate and informative, he was so happy to share his culture with us. Spiros was also incredibly patient with our 10 month old daughter, which we really appreciated! We would definitely book another tour with Spiros next time we are in Crete.

Top tier tour! I’ve done many tours in Europe and they’ve all been delightful, 10/10 experiences and yet Spyro still managed to make this a notch above! He was very hospitable and welcoming. He also had extensive knowledgeabout Cretan history, culture, and agriculture. It was clear that he was a well-known local in Lasithi and that added a special touch.

Our tour guide, Spyros, was an excellent guide! He toured us around Heraklion where we visited a family owned winery and rali producer and olive oil production facility. We learned a lot about the local production and consumption of all food. While we did visit during the low season (Dec), there was a chance that stone places were closed, like the pottery business. While we were disappointed, we still enjoyed the tour and the accommodations that Spyros provided. Highly recommended!

A Truly Special Tour of Crete
My wife and I had the most incredible tour experiencing Cretan olive oil, wine, raki, and pottery with Spyros. He was personable, knowledgeable, fun, and went above and beyond to deliver a memorable day. Along the tour he would make stops to pick herbs off the roadside to share more about the rich agriculture with us! He even brought along birthday candles and a personalized cake for my wife’s birthday – truly special. We highly recommend Spyros and Tours in Heraklion!

Must do this tour!
An amazing experience. Sypros is clearly a man who adores the island while also being very true to the history and the decline of some of the villages. The stories of these villages make me want to move my entire family there to restart the whole place up again.The experiences of seeing the olive oil being made and of picking strawberries while drinking wine are dreams I will keep revisiting. Buy some of his uncles honey, he’s a very nice man. The pottery shop has some of the greatest pieces I’ve seen and I immediately spent 70 euros in there. The restaurant he took us to for lunch was to die for and the coffee shop was the most heart warming place I’ve ever seen. Glad I managed to introduce him to Glenfiddich and 80 shilling.

What a beautiful way to explore Crete! Me and my partner were visiting Crete for the first time and I really wanted us to not only see the famous landmarks but also experience the local culture. I am so glad I booked this tour! It was 2 of us and one more couple on this tour – which was great as we got along very well ☺️ Our guide Stavros was amazing! Super friendly, knowledgeable and flexible! The whole experience felt so natural, we didn’t rush, got enough time to explore Knossos palace, and Lasithi Plateu. We visited local villages, learnt about olive oil processing, tasted freshly pressed olive oil and local olives, honey, yoghurt and raki. We saw the windmills and learnt about their history and farming practices. We drank amazing coffee and visited a local church in the mountains. We had a go at pottery making ☺️, we picked local strawberries and had some local wine under fruit trees in the mountains! We saw the Cave of Zeus, unfortunately we couldn’t go inside since its pending renovation since recent earthquake, but regardless of that our experience of Crete couldn’t be any better! We also tasted different varieties of grapes, learnt about herbs, goats and local islands. We saw one of the oldest trees (over 2000 years old)! Stavros, you have a great sense of humour, you are very knowledgeable and really made us feel so welcome! Thank you so much for your hospitality! ☺️🌻 ps great updates throughout the booking experience from Nikos, we knew the exact pick up location and pick up time and it was super easy to communicate ☺️ highly recommend to anyone who is a newby to Crete and want to experience the landmarks as well as the culture ☺️

Beautiful drive and educational experience.

My sister and I did this tour and absolutely loved it. The wineries were beautiful and had great wine and amazing cheese plates, the pottery studio we went to was amazing (and we got to try doing pottery!) and the olive oil press was very educational. The drive was astoundingly scenic. We would have had a great time even with a terrible guide.

However, our guide (Stavros) was awesome. We could not have asked for a nicer, funnier, more knowledgeable guy. He joked at the beginning of the tour that questions were free until 3, and thereafter it would be €5 per question. If so, we would owe him approximately 1k. He answered questions about botany, history, culture, wildlife, politics, tourism, his family, the business, etc. We were honestly disappointed he didn’t join us for the wine tasting, we were enjoying his company so much.

I would recommend this tour to anyone. I plan to recommend it to everyone I know who travels out this way.
