Spyros for Mayor
Spyros, our amazing guide, led us on an amazing exploration, of his pride and joy, Crete. His infectious personality and local knowledge made our trip feel like visiting old friends and family. The castle visit and the cave of Zeus were timed perfectly to avoid long lines and crowds; this made pictures taking much easier and enjoyable. The real gem of our tour was exploring the history and culture of the people who make up the small villages of Crete. Having a guide of local descent, Spyros, made the culture come to life. His personal relationships with restaurant owners, cafe patrons, olive pressers, and master potters afforded us a personal involvement that made us feel like long lost family returning home. Thank you, Spyros…and yes, you should run for Mayor!

Falling in Love with Crete.
Our experience with Tours in Heraklion was absolutely incredible. Our tour guide Spyros picked us up directly from our hotel and off we went on a day’s journey that immersed us in the best of the island. Knossos Palace was fascinating and beautiful; the olive oil factory was exquisite, the Cave of Zeus was awe-inspiring; and every other stop only further highted the beauty that is Crete. Spyros kept conversation lively throughout the trip, recounting the history of the island and every little factoid that became relevant – either from seeing something from the road or because we asked a good question. He was always game to answer every question we threw his way. By the time our tour came to an end, thanks to our exploring and all of Spyros’ stories, we felt as if we experienced the Crete that lives beyond the tourist towns.

Truly a Personalized Tour
We had a fantastic time on this tour! It was both highly interactive and deeply informative. We really appreciated being given choices on whether to proceed with the optional stops, which made the entire experience feel customized and personalized to our interests.

Exceptional tour
I encourage everyone to take this unforgettable tour, filled with new discoveries and full of emotion. You will see some of the most emblematic sites in Crete, but most importantly, you will be able to hear personal stories and learn about everyday life in Crete (past and present). Our guide, Spyros, felt like a member of the family by the end of the tour. His storytelling skills and ability to make you feel comfortable were phenomenal. He went out of his way to ensure we left the tour with memories to last a lifetime. We will never forget you, Spyros. And we will definitely buy you a coffee if we meet again!

Our guide, Spyros, made this day a truly memorable one. He was so welcoming from the moment he picked us up and provided so much history about the island of Crete throughout the day. We had a great time at the Olive Oil tasting (delicious!) in which we got to learn about the entire process end to end. We then spent some time relaxing in Agios Nikolaos having some coffee while looking at the amazing scenery followed by some shopping. We wrapped up the day at Spinalonga which has so much history and lunch in Plaka. The day was filled with so much learning while seeing the many beautiful sites in East Crete. In addition, Nikos was great at answering any questions we had prior to the tour and overall, Tours in Heraklion was a great company to work with. I would definitely recommend this tour and company to others!

We had the absolute best experience today with Spyros as our tour guide for our Crete tour of Knossos Palace, the olive oil factory, and the pottery workshop. From the moment we started the tour, he was incredibly warm, entertaining, knowledgeable, and passionate about his island and its history.

What made this tour so special was how personal and authentic it felt. It was an intimate group of only four people, which allowed us to ask questions throughout the entire day and really engage with everything we were seeing. Spyros never made anything feel rushed and took the time to explain the history, culture, and traditions of Crete in such an interesting and memorable way.

One of the highlights of the day was when he brought us to the village where he grew up and showed us around personally. It felt like we got to experience the “real” Crete through his eyes. He even took us to a local café for coffee and introduced us to authentic Greek yogurt, which was such a thoughtful touch and something we probably never would have experienced on our own.

He also brought us to a beautiful mountaintop restaurant near the windmills for lunch with incredible views and delicious food recommendations. Every stop throughout the day felt carefully chosen and meaningful.

To top it all off, on the ride back from Knossos Palace, Spyros surprised us with wine and made the drive back so fun and enjoyable. It truly felt like spending the day with a friend who genuinely wanted us to fall in love with Crete.

If you are considering this tour, book it and ask for Spyros if possible — he made our experience unforgettable. Thank you for such an amazing day and for sharing your home, stories, and culture with us!

This tour allowed my to see Crete beyond the beaches. I saw the region’s scenic beauty from the shores to the mountians and it’s many architectural influences. Spyros was a friendly and knowledgeable guide. He proudly shared so much history and culture about the island. I highly recommend this tour as you will not be disappointed.

Our family did the full day tour with Spiros, visiting olive oil mills, the windmills in Lasithi Plateau and Knossos Palace. In addition we stopped for a traditional lunch (the best we had in Greece), and later for traditional coffee and to try greek yoghurt. This was one of the best tours we have ever done. Spiros was an amazing guide, very passionate and informative, he was so happy to share his culture with us. Spiros was also incredibly patient with our 10 month old daughter, which we really appreciated! We would definitely book another tour with Spiros next time we are in Crete.

Top tier tour! I’ve done many tours in Europe and they’ve all been delightful, 10/10 experiences and yet Spyro still managed to make this a notch above! He was very hospitable and welcoming. He also had extensive knowledgeabout Cretan history, culture, and agriculture. It was clear that he was a well-known local in Lasithi and that added a special touch.
